My name is McKenna. I have grown up with strict parents who kept me away from things so long I had to find out from my classmates the hard way. I went to a small private school. When I returned to my private school after the pandemic, I realized how cooped up I had been when I saw how others dressed and the music they listened to. In 6th grade, I had my first suicidal thoughts. It came out of nowhere, but I just sat in my room and cried and asked myself why I was on this planet. My parents found me and we had a 3-hour long conversation about why this was happening to me. My parents wouldn’t believe me when I told them about the thoughts I had before, and although I asked for help, they told me I was dramatic and to help myself. Finally, at a doctor’s appointment, I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. My parents to this day have still refused to get me help, whether through therapy, counseling, or meds. But I have hope for the first time in a long time. I went to a youth group and found Jesus. I now know why I am on this planet, and I hope to follow Juice WRLD’s footsteps and help people get through hard times with music. I hope that you will realize your purpose and although you should listen to your parents obviously, don’t let ANYONE hold you back from getting the help you need. Continue to help others in any way you can, because that is how you truly live free.
